What is KS-TAP?

TAP is an equipment distribution program. The Kansas Telecommunications Access Program (TAP) is an equipment distribution program. The purpose of the program is to provide specialized telephones and other telecommunications devices to Kansans with disabilities who can’t use traditional home telephones. Based on state law, the program receives funds through the Kansas Universal Service Fund (KUSF) and is regulated by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).

Trouble using the phone?

KS TAP may be able to help.

You may benefit from the Kansas Telecommunications Access Program (TAP) if:

  • It’s hard to hear or understand people on the phone.
  • Others can’t hear you well or ask you to repeat yourself.
  • It’s difficult to dial small buttons or read the phone display.
  • You miss calls because you don’t hear the phone ring or can’t get to it in time.

The Kansans Telecommunications Access Program provides adapted telephones, signalers, smartphones, and tablets with identified software to help people access telecommunications more easily.

Who qualifies?

TAP provides free specialized equipment to those who qualify.
You may qualify if you:

  • Live in Kansas,
  • Have telephone service,
  • Have a household income under $55,000 per year, and
  • Have trouble hearing, seeing, speaking, remembering, walking, or holding a telephone.
